New Build Maidstone
Architect: Eldridge Smerin
IQ GlassTM has been installed in this new-build 5-bedroom house with indoor swimming pool. A total of 200m2 of IQ GlassTM provides the optimum heating comfort for this property The Customer has opted for triple glazed IQ units as the sole heating system for this property. The advantages for triple glazed IQ GlassTM units are:
Improved burglary protected unit
Complete high spec sound proof
U-value 0.7 W/m²K
Improved solar gain savings
Highly energy efficient radiant heating system: The gain in energy reduction is very significant for the IQ GlassTM triple glazed units with a U-value of 0.7 W/m²K. No discernable energy loss could be measured to the outside environment with a 250W/m² input! (energy testing performed in 2007) In layman terms this means that all of the 250W/m2 input will be radiated inwards without an additional heat loss to the outside making these units very eco-friendly!
Radiant heating system and energy efficiency:
One of the typical characteristics of heated glass is that it allows you to lower the room temperature by 3ºC without any impact on the comfort of the living surroundings. This phenomenon means an important energy saving in comparison with traditional glass and heating systems.
IQ Glass is a radiant heating system. Radiant systems provide unique, cost-effective approaches to addressing numerous conditions affecting human thermal comfort, as primary or hybrid systems. Radiant heating systems heat the objects and not the air. The idea is that the occupied air mass is heated to a lower dry-bulb air temperature than with a convection heating system as long as the occupants are radiantly heated. The idea is to save energy or to overcome otherwise adverse local comfort conditions. A striking example is that of skiers in swimsuits on days when the air temperature is around freezing point and the snow is still crisp and fresh. The dry, clear, thin high-altitude air; strong late-spring sun; and snow covered surface all combine to enable the high intensity radiant field make the human body feel comfortable in otherwise cold conditions.
The Customers of this property set the thermostat values to 17ºC and the house is incredibly warm at all times. The fact that they can reduce the thermostat setting means that this will reduce the energy consumption drastically.
The photos below show how the cables are put in position. U-profiles are being used for the structural glazing system. The Project will be completed by the end of this year.
